What Is Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party?

Colorful lights, wreaths, and a giant Christmas tree turn Magic Kingdom into a winter wonderland

An extra ticketed event, Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party takes place on select nights at Magic Kingdom. A party ticket gives guests exclusive access to Magic Kingdom and special holiday activities from 7 pm until midnight.

While the party officially begins at 7pm on event nights, guests with a MVMCP ticket can enter Magic Kingdom at 4pm. Party guests don’t need Magic Kingdom park reservations unless visiting the park earlier than 4pm on their party night.

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party Activities

Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade

Mickey and Minnie wave to guests during Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party

Admire classic Disney characters, princesses, and Pixar friends dressed in their finest holiday outfits while waving to guests in Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade.

Grab a spot along the winding parade route which starts near Splash Mountain and ends near the Main Street flagpole and train station. Make sure to wave to Santa as he wishes everyone a Merry Christmas.

One of my favorite things about Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade is that some floats, in addition to having adorable decorations and fun characters, smell like delicious treats.

Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks

Fireworks, red, and green lights transform Cinderella castle into a Christmas icon during Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party

Cinderella Castle is covered in seasonal designs, including a cute ugly sweater pattern, during Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks. Perfectly timed Christmas music, castle projections, and extravagant fireworks make this new display a fun holiday experience.

Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks only occur once during the party so plan ahead to see this entertaining show.

Mickey’s Most Merriest Celebration

This castle stage show features Mickey throwing a fabulous Christmas party for his friends. Expect a mix of Christmas songs and Disney characters in this cute show performed several times per night.

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party Ride Overlays

Ornaments decorate the screen before the Monsters Inc Very Merry Christmas Party Overlay show begins

Jingle Cruise

Jungle Cruise gets a snazzy Christmas update transforming it into Jingle Cruise. Find incredible themed holiday decorations throughout the queue and ride.

Although the decor may be improved for the holidays, expect the same groan worthy Jungle Cruise jokes but with seasonal flair.

Space Mountain

This is the version of Space Mountain I never knew I needed. The track has several areas lit with red, green, or blue lights with a rock inspired Christmas soundtrack.

I like seeing some of the tracks and think the dim lights help me avoid being as jostled as normal. However, my daughter was shocked seeing how close the tracks are to each other in certain areas.

Tomorrowland Speedway

The Tomorrowland Speedway has several areas of Christmas lights along the track and a Christmas playlist.

This party overlay is a fun version of Tomorrowland Speedway, and it is about the only way you can get me to joyfully do this attraction.

Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor

This is the same style comedy show of a normal Monsters, Inc Laugh Floor show, but with seasonal jokes and design. Even Roz gets in the Christmas spirit with a special sweater. We laughed and had a good time at the show, but it isn’t worth rushing to do as part of your party.

Mad Tea Party

Festive music and colorful lights transform Mad Tea Party into a more seasonal experience. Although cute, we like the Mickey’s Not So Scary Party Mad Tea Party experience better.

Dance Parties

Stitch and Buzz Lightyear get Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party guests up and dancing

While we don’t suggest using precious event time on Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party dance parties, sometimes a quick stop between other activities is a fun break.

Club Tinsel

Cosmic Ray’s hosts an intergalactic dance party featuring elves, reindeer, and more during MVMCP.

A Totally Tomorrowland Christmas

The Rockettower Plaza stage in Tomorrowland has a DJ mixing music while fun characters like Santa Stitch, Buzz Lightyear, and Mike Wizowski stop by for a quick dance.

Disney Junior Jingle Jam

Find Disney Junior friends in Storybook Circus dancing the night away. Guests with little ones should stop by and wave to some favorite friends in this rare chance to see Disney Junior characters in Magic Kingdom.

Expect characters from Vampirina, Doc McStuffins, Fancy Nancy, and The Lion Guard to rotate through Disney Junior Jingle Jam.

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party Attractions

Most, but not all, Magic Kingdom attractions are open during the party. Expect popular rides like Peter Pan’s Flight and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train plus many others.

Based on previous parties I expect the following attractions to be open during the party. I’ll update this list once we have more information.

Christmas Party Meet and Greets

Character meet and greets are back to normal at Disney World and it seems this will be the case for the 2022 Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party events.

Find Disney characters dressed in festive attire ready to celebrate the season. We always love meeting Disney characters, but generally spend less time on characters at MVMCP than Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. This is because MNSSHP usually has a better assortment of rare characters.

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party Photo Ops

Santa and his reindeer fly over Cinderella Castle during Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party

Disney World vacation photos are some of my favorite trip souvenirs. Look for PhotoPass photographers throughout Magic Kingdom during the Christmas party.

Several PhotoPass photographers have special Magic Shots exclusive to the party. These fun photo ops make for amazing pictures perfect for remembering this special night.

Christmas Treats

Select locations offer complimentary cookies and cocoa on party nights. While these make a nice snack during the night I wouldn’t recommend waiting in a long line for these free treats.

Where Should I Stay For Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party?

Grand Floridian gingerbread house makes the lobby smell delightful

Most Magic Kingdom resorts are a good option for MVMCP since these are either a short walk or a boat/monorail ride from the event.

My favorite resorts for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party are either Disney’s Contemporary Resort or Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort. Both hotels are a short walk from Magic Kingdom perfect for getting back easily late at night.

While I generally love Disney’s Polynesian Resort, construction of the new DVC tower and long walk or need for transportation back moves it further down my ranking right now.

Wilderness Lodge and Copper Creek Villas, while beautiful, require a boat ride after MVMCP.

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party Transportation

Party transportation is included before, during, and after the event to make sure everyone gets back to their resort or parking lot safely. However, if you leave Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party outside of posted hours or right at closing you may be stuck waiting a long time for bus service back to your hotel.

Is Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party Worth It?

For some people Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is a bucket list item. If that’s the case for you, or you have an unlimited Disney World budget, buy a party ticket

However, if you’re concerned about budget I think skipping Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is wise. Disney Springs, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, and Hollywood Studios all have fun Christmas experiences which are either free or included in your park day.
