Sun Valley was founded by Union Pacific Railroad who wanted a destination ski resort in the U.S.  Union Pacific RR engineers even designed the 1st chairlift for Sun Valley.

Sun Valley, Idaho is 3 hours east of Boise and 4.5 hours from Salt Lake City, Utah. These are also the two closest major airports.

Take A Day Trip To Craters of the Moon

Just 90 minutes from Sun Valley is Craters of the Moon, a national park unlike any other. Pack clean hiking shoes and get a cave permit from the visitors center.

Visit Ernest Hemmingway's Grave

This famous writer was invited to Sun Valley Lodge in 1939 and loved the area. He later bought a home and is buried in Ketchum Cemetery.
